GLP-1 skincare: what a routine can and can't do for your skin

Most of what changes is fat lost from under the skin, and no cream refills it. The skin itself changes too, and that is where copper peptides help: GHK-Cu supports the look of firmer, smoother skin.

The short answer

What happens to skin during GLP‑1 weight loss?

Most of what people notice is lost fat under the skin. Some of it is the skin itself.

"Ozempic face" is a nickname, not a diagnosis. A 2025 systematic review of 23 papers describes it as fat loss in the temples, cheeks, tear troughs, jawline and the folds around the mouth, which can make a face look gaunt and older than it is1. The same review found no good evidence that GLP-1 medicines take fat from the face more than from anywhere else1.

The skin changes too. A 2026 review of 40 human studies reports thinner dermis, loss of collagen and elastin fibres, less elasticity and loose skin folds during GLP-1 weight loss2. It links more marked changes with older age, a long history of obesity, fast weight loss, poor hydration and not getting enough protein2.

The fat underneath

Volume lost from the temples, cheeks and under the eyes. No cream, serum or balm puts it back.

The skin itself

Thinner, with less collagen and elastin, so it springs back less over the padding that is left2.

The surface

Dryness, fine lines and texture. This is the layer skincare can actually reach.

What the science says
What the science saysGHK-Cu / Copper Tripeptide-1

Is it the medicine or the weight loss?

Researchers don't know yet, and anyone who tells you otherwise is ahead of the evidence.

The 2025 review suggests GLP-1 medicines make ordinary age-related changes easier to see, by leaving skin that has already lost some spring over a thinner layer of fat1. The 2026 review of 40 studies ties the skin changes to fast fat loss and doesn't separate the medicine from the weight loss2.

A second 2026 review, in the Journal of Clinical Medicine, says the effect of these medicines on skin biology appears to be mixed and depends on the pathway involved, and that well-designed clinical studies are still needed to work out what they do to skin3.

So the fair summary is this: big weight loss changes faces, it has done so long before GLP-1 medicines existed, and the medicine's name is attached because that is how many people are losing weight now.

The American Academy of Dermatology says a cream or lotion cannot penetrate the skin deeply enough to lift sagging skin, and lists ultrasound, radiofrequency and laser treatments as the in-office options5. Those are medical decisions with their own risks and costs.

Where GHK-Cu fits

Can copper peptides help skin during GLP‑1 weight loss?

With the skin itself, yes. With volume lost from fat, no.

GHK-Cu is a small copper-carrying peptide your body makes less of with age. On an ingredient list it is called Copper Tripeptide-1. It works on skin, not on the fat beneath it, so it has no role in the hollow part of Ozempic face.

Where it is relevant is the skin itself. A 2018 review reports a 12-week study in which 71 women with sun-damaged facial skin used a cream containing GHK-Cu: their skin measured denser and thicker, looked less lax and showed shallower fine lines4.

That study was on sun-aged skin rather than skin after weight loss, but it measured the same things GLP-1 weight loss affects: density, thickness and laxity.

What's established

GHK-Cu in a facial cream improved measures of density, thickness and fine lines in sun-damaged skin over 12 weeks4.

What it can't reach

Fat lost from under the skin. Restoring volume is a question for a dermatologist or facial plastic surgeon.

What it supports

The look of firmer, smoother skin on face, neck and body while your body changes.

Before you buy

How to judge a skincare routine sold for GLP‑1 weight loss

Peptide routines are now marketed to people on GLP-1 medicines. Four checks before you buy one.

Check which peptide it is

If you want GHK-Cu, look for Copper Tripeptide-1 on the ingredient list. Other copper peptides, such as Copper Palmitoyl Heptapeptide-14, are different molecules, and the published GHK-Cu research doesn't carry over to them.

Look for a percentage

A concentration on the label is the fairest way to compare one peptide product with another. If it isn't stated, ask the brand. See what 2% GHK-Cu means.

Ask what was tested

A study on an ingredient isn't a study on the product, and a study on sun-damaged skin isn't a study on skin after weight loss. Ask what was tested, on whom and for how long.

Be wary of fix language

A product that promises to restore volume or tighten loose skin is promising what dermatologists say a cream can't deliver5.

Held to the same checks

How koppā answers those four checks.

Compare all four

Copper Tripeptide-1 is on every label. The percentage is printed: 2% in the serum, 0.5% in the moisturizing cream and the balm stick. The full ingredient list is on every product page. And the claims stay where the evidence is: the look of firmer, smoother skin.

The routine

A simple skin routine while your body changes

Nothing here is aimed at Ozempic face. It's steady care for skin that may be drier or less comfortable than usual.

  1. 01

    Cleanse gently

Skip anything that leaves skin squeaky or tight. Harsh scrubs and strong acids on skin that's already changing can leave it irritated.

  2. 02

    Keep the routine short

A cleanser, one treatment, a moisturiser and sunscreen cover what changing skin needs.

  3. 03

A serum, if you like one

Three to four drops of the GHK-Cu serum on clean skin, face and neck, morning and night. It is optional; the next two steps are not.

  4. 04

    Moisturise every day

Face and body. The moisturizing cream is 0.5% encapsulated GHK-Cu with 5% niacinamide, or use any moisturiser you like. For neck, chest and hands, the balm stick stays where a serum won't.

  5. 05

    Sunscreen every morning

Sun wears down collagen over the years, and it is the factor you control.

  6. 06

    Eat and drink enough

The 2026 review links low protein and poor hydration with more marked skin changes2. If you're eating much less than before, ask your prescriber or a dietitian whether you're getting enough.

FAQ

Questions about GLP‑1 medicines and skincare

Can skincare fix Ozempic face?

No. The main change in Ozempic face is lost fat under the skin, and no cream adds fat or volume1. Skincare can help the skin on top look smoother and feel more comfortable, and sunscreen protects it. For the volume itself, a dermatologist or facial plastic surgeon can explain the options.

Is it the GLP‑1 medicine or the weight loss that changes skin?

Researchers don't know yet. A 2025 review found no good evidence that GLP-1 medicines take fat from the face in particular1, and two 2026 reviews say the drug's own effect on skin hasn't been separated from the effect of losing weight fast23.

Can copper peptides tighten loose skin after weight loss?

They support the look of firmer skin, but they don't remove folds left by fat loss; no cream does. In a 12-week study a GHK-Cu cream improved measures of skin density, thickness and laxity on sun-aged faces4.

Can a peptide help with Ozempic face?

No peptide fixes Ozempic face. The main change is fat lost from under the skin, and no cream adds volume back1; a dermatologist or facial plastic surgeon can explain the options for that. For the skin itself, look for a peptide product that names the peptide and states its percentage on the label, so you know what you are buying and can compare it with others.

What is a good skincare routine while taking a GLP‑1 medicine?

A gentle cleanser, a copper peptide serum for the look of firmer, smoother skin, a daily moisturiser and sunscreen every morning. Plan your protein and fluids too: the 2026 review links low intake of both with more marked skin changes2.

Can I use GHK-Cu while taking a GLP‑1 medicine?

GHK-Cu is a cosmetic ingredient used on intact skin. If you want to check it against your medication, the full ingredient list is on each product page to show your prescriber or pharmacist.

Which koppā product should I start with?

For face and neck, the serum. If you'd rather start lower, the moisturizing cream doubles as your moisturiser. For neck, chest and hands, the balm stick.
