The Men's Copper Peptide Skincare Routine: Two Steps, Done

A good men's copper peptide skincare routine is two steps: a GHK-Cu serum, then a light moisturiser. Morning and night, about a minute each time. Add sunscreen on mornings you're outside. That's it. No ten-step routine, nothing that sits greasy on your face, and no guesswork about what each product is for.

Below is the routine, why each step is there, how to fit it around shaving, and what the science on copper peptides does and doesn't show. It should take about three minutes to read.

The men's copper peptide skincare routine, in two steps

  1. Serum. On clean skin, press three or four drops of the serum into your face and neck. It's 2% GHK-Cu in a water-light base that absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a greasy finish.
  2. Cream. Once the serum has sunk in, a small amount of the capsule cream over the top. It has 0.5% GHK-Cu in small blue beads that open as you rub it in, plus niacinamide and squalane, and it's made to feel light rather than heavy.

Do it morning and night. In the morning, finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher if you'll be outdoors. The American Academy of Dermatology's skin care tips for men recommend it on all exposed skin, including ears and neck.

Why these two steps

Short version: one step for the active ingredient, one to hold water in. Everything else is optional.

Why a serum

GHK-Cu is a small peptide your body already makes. It carries copper, and it helps skin maintain itself: a 2015 review in BioMed Research International reports that it increases collagen, the protein that gives skin its structure, and adjusts the enzymes that clear old collagen away. Your levels fall with age. A serum is the simplest way to put a meaningful amount of it on skin, in a light format that doesn't sit on the surface.

Why a moisturiser, even if your skin feels oily

Oil and water aren't the same thing. The AAD explains that moisturiser works by trapping water in skin, which helps reduce the look of fine lines. If your skin runs oily, pick something light rather than skipping it. That's why we made the capsule cream to finish light, not heavy.

What the research on copper peptides actually shows

The human study cited most is summarised in a 2018 review in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. Seventy-one women with sun-damaged skin used a GHK-Cu face cream for 12 weeks. Their skin measured denser and thicker, looked less lax, and showed shallower fine lines.

How to read it. What it did: tested one cream on one group of women. How it relates to our formula: adjacent, same peptide, different formula and concentration. What it doesn't prove: that the result carries over to every skin, or that our products will do the same. We know of no copper peptide study run only on men. It's a reason to try the ingredient, and you judge it yourself over a bottle.

Fitting it around shaving

If you shave, the routine doesn't change. Shave first, then serum, then cream. If freshly shaved skin stings with anything you put on it, give it a few minutes before the serum.

The shaving itself is where most irritation starts. The AAD's shaving advice is simple:

  • Wet your skin and hair first. Just after a shower is ideal.
  • Use a shaving cream or gel. Pick one labelled for sensitive skin if yours is dry or reactive.
  • Shave in the direction the hair grows.
  • Rinse the blade after each swipe, and replace it after 5 to 7 shaves.
  • Store the razor somewhere dry.

If you get frequent razor bumps or ingrown hairs, that's worth showing to a dermatologist. A serum isn't the fix for it.

Optional extras, if you want them

You don't need a third step. If you want one, it's the balm stick: 0.5% GHK-Cu in a solid, water-free stick with a matte finish. It's for small areas you want to give extra attention, like the lines at the corners of your eyes or across the forehead. Swipe it on at night after the cream.

If you already use retinol, alternate nights with the serum to start. Keep vitamin C to the other end of the day from copper peptides, because the two work against each other in the same step. Our GHK-Cu layering guide covers other combinations.

Frequently asked questions

Is men's skin different from women's?

In some measurable ways. A 1975 study in the British Journal of Dermatology measured forearm skin in a large group and found men had more collagen than women at every age, and that collagen fell with age in both. For a routine, the practical point is the same for everyone: use a well-researched active, keep skin moisturised and wear sunscreen.

Will a copper peptide serum make oily skin greasier?

It shouldn't. The serum is water-light and absorbs quickly with a non-greasy finish. If your skin is very oily or breakout-prone, our article on GHK-Cu and oily skin covers it in more detail, and a dermatologist is the right person for persistent breakouts.

Can I use copper peptides every day?

For most people, yes, morning and night. GHK-Cu is generally well tolerated and doesn't rely on irritation to work. Patch test first if your skin is sensitive. Our guide to using copper peptides every day answers the common questions about how much and how often.

How long before I see a difference?

Give it time. Skin replaces its top layer roughly once a month, and changes deeper down take longer. Take a photo in the same light when you start, use the routine every day, and compare when you finish the bottle.

The short version

Serum, then cream. Morning and night. Sunscreen in the morning if you're outside. The serum carries 2% GHK-Cu, a copper peptide with real research behind it for how skin looks. The cream holds water in without feeling heavy. Shave as the AAD suggests, keep the routine boring, and judge it over a bottle. More detail on timing is in our morning and night GHK-Cu guide.
